Compress a PDF without uploading it
or drop files here
PDF files only
Compress PDF makes a PDF smaller by re-compressing the images inside it. Choose Recommended for a noticeably smaller file, or Low to keep images closer to the original, then check the before-and-after size before you download. Scanned documents and photo-heavy PDFs usually shrink the most; a PDF that is mostly text may barely change, because text takes very little space to begin with. You choose a level, not an exact target size. PDFEdit compresses the file in your browser, so it's never uploaded and there's no upload wait. It's free, with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit.

FAQ
What's the difference between Low and Recommended?
Low compresses images lightly and keeps them closer to the original. Recommended lowers image resolution further, so the file gets smaller while text stays sharp. Start with Recommended; if photos look too soft, try Low.
Why didn't my PDF get much smaller?
Most of a PDF's size usually comes from images. Files that are mostly text, or already optimized, have little left to compress. If the file can't be made smaller, PDFEdit gives you the original back rather than a bigger "compressed" file.
Can I compress to an exact size like 1 MB?
No. You pick a compression level, not a target size. If the result is still too large, delete pages you don't need or split the PDF into parts.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is compressed on your device and is not sent to PDFEdit's servers.
Is there a file size limit?
Each file can be up to 500 MB on a computer or 100 MB on a phone or tablet. Large scans take longer because your own device does the work.
