PDF · up to 500 MB per file (100 MB on a phone)
PDF to Text pulls the words out of every page of a PDF and saves them as a plain .txt file you can paste, search or edit anywhere. You get text only: fonts, images, tables and layout are not kept, and pages are separated by a blank line. The file is saved as UTF-8, so accented letters and non-Latin scripts come through when the PDF contains real text. It does not read text from images, so scanned PDFs (pictures of pages) won't produce text. PDFEdit extracts the text in your browser; neither your PDF nor the text file is uploaded. Free, with no sign-up.

FAQ
Can I get text from a scanned PDF?
No. A scanned PDF is a picture of each page, so there's no text layer to extract, and the tool will tell you it found none. PDFEdit doesn't do OCR. Quick check: if you can't select words with your cursor in a PDF viewer, it's probably scanned.
Does it keep the formatting?
No. You get plain text only. On pages with columns or tables, check the reading order in the result.
Does it work with other languages?
Yes, if the PDF contains real text. The .txt file is UTF-8, so accents and scripts such as Chinese, Arabic or Cyrillic are preserved. Some fonts without proper character data may produce a few wrong characters.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
If it needs a password to open, remove it first with Unlock PDF (you'll need the password), then convert the unlocked copy.
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. Text extraction runs in your browser.
