About PDFEdit
PDFEdit is a set of free PDF tools that work inside your web browser: merge, split, compress, convert, rotate, sign, edit, protect and more. Our one rule is in the tagline: free PDF tools that never upload your files.
Why we built it this way
Most online PDF tools upload your document to a server, process it there and send it back. That works, but it means a copy of your contract, tax return or medical record passes through someone else's computer, and you have to take their word for what happens to it.
PDFEdit does the work on your own device instead. When you open a tool, your browser downloads the program code; when you add a file, the code runs locally and the file stays where it is. There's no upload step, so there's also no upload wait for large files. You can check this yourself — see How we never upload your files.
What "free" means here
No sign-up. No account and no email address.
No watermark. Nothing is added to your pages unless you add it yourself.
No daily limit. Use the tools as often as you need.
The one real limit is file size: up to 500 MB per file on a computer and 100 MB on a phone or tablet, because your device does the processing and phones have less memory to spare.
The tools can be free because your device does the processing, so we don't pay for servers to handle your files.
In the future we may add tools that can't run in a browser, such as OCR. If we do, they'll be clearly labeled, and any that need our servers may have a limit or a price. The tools that run in your browser will stay free.
Built on established open-source libraries
PDFEdit uses well-known open-source components, including PDF.js (to display pages), pdf-lib (to create and edit PDFs), libheif (to read iPhone HEIC photos) and JSZip (for multi-file downloads). The full list, with versions and licenses, is on our Open-source licenses page.
